Coastal Field Trip – Northshore Coast
Our geography field trip will be on Wednesday 25th March. We will be leaving school at 8:30am and returning at approximately 4pm. We will be travelling through Geelong to Point Lonsdale, Collendina, Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads. A Google map of our field trip can be viewed by clicking here.
You will need to bring paper, pen, clipboard, sunscreen, hat, water and morning tea and lunch. I cannot guarantee that we will have somewhere to stop and buy food for either morning tea or lunch, so you will need to bring enough food for the day. Make sure you bring some fruit. If you have a camera, bring it along so you can take photos for your next assessment task.
Make sure you dress appropriately for the field trip. Closed in shoes are compulsory, and it may be a sunny, hot day, so wear a tshirt with collar and suitable shorts. I also suggest that you bring a rain jacket, as we will still be out and about if it is raining.
It is very important that you attend the field trip as you will be completing an assessment task from your findings. This will contribute to your overall mark at the end of the semester. Field work is also an important component to complete VCE Geography and the outcomes each semester.
You will also need to complete a number of tasks at each of the locations, including a field sketch. During Friday’s lesson, I will show you how to do an annotated field sketch. Use the handout I provided as a guide. Other tasks will include wave observations (type of wave, wave period etc), observations of natural processes, observations of human impacts and management techniques.
You need to hand in your permission form and $21 to Ann in the office by Monday. If you do not have your permission form handed in and your money paid, you will not be able to attend the excursion, and this will impact your outcome. If there are any issues, make sure you see me.
